Entrepreneurship At Loomis

Our Services

Workshops

We host workshops from entrepreneurs with the background to back up their advice to our club members. Workshops are geared towards practical teachings from professionals and hands on experiences with an opportunity for expert feedback, rather than the insights and intellectual Q&A that speakers can provide.

In addition to workshops from successful entrepreneurs, we host opportunities to learn practical skills from industry experts, like how to create a LinkedIn profile hosted by a professional headhunter for top executives. The president’s will occasionally host workshops on other practical skills like website development and how to use Excel effectively.

Projects and Competitions

We provide unique access to club members to join in on ventures from other club members. One of our presidents, Noah Wenner, has founded LifeForce, a health-conscious and scientific approach to the current unhealthy popular culture of caffeine, stimulant, and steroid abuse for fitness enthusiasts. Since the company is in its early stages, club members would have the opportunity to get valuable practice with marketing, product design, and scaling manufacturing. Prior to LifeForce, another president, Eli Krasnoff, worked on creating environmental sensors with two other Loomis students, with a goal of detecting harmful particulate matter in the air, as well as carbon dioxide sensors to place in the Windsor area. The project provided a good opportunity for problem-solving, innovation, and communication with essential personnel.

In addition to projects within the club, below are a list of competitions and organizations that can help further hone your skills.

Speakers

Similar to workshops, we bring speakers who are at the forefront of their field with well-informed insights that are rare to find elsewhere. These speakers provide club members with a strong understanding of their field and how they got to where they are. The goal is to provide club members with perspective on how to achieve their goals from someone who has achieved them, in addition to opening their eyes to potential career paths. We also provide the contacts for these speakers to all club members with an interest in the topic, providing unique access to these executives, founders, and leading innovators.

Networking Opportunities

In addition to support from peers, we recognize that support and guidance from those in industry is essential. Therefore, we are proud to provide the opportunity to our club members to network with successful Loomis alumni, as well as successful entrepreneurs in the Loomis network. We are fortunate to have a strong relationship with the Alumni Development Office, where students can direct their queries on obtaining internship positions or advice about their interests from Loomis alumni.

We host lunches with alumni at restaurants off campus for a small number of club members each trip to provide a more personal environment with the alumnus. We collaborate with the Financial Literacy Program to provide these lunch opportunities. Through our close relationship with the Financial Literacy Program, we are also able to provide club members with opportunities for networking at their events, like the end of year celebration with many successful alumni.

Sales Practice

Theory and lessons only take you so far, so we make sure to offer opportunities to practice the lessons learned from these workshops and speakers. We partner with the Environmental Proctors organization at Loomis to sell locally made maple syrup, as well as honey collected from Loomis’ very own apiary. This practice with sales is integral to future ventures, where putting yourself in uncomfortable situations to sell your product or service is necessary.

Peer Support

We believe that collaboration is an essential aspect of the problem-solving process, so we host regular informal group meetings. In these meetings, members present their ideas, and those present help the presenter with their idea. Often, this process leads to a more refined idea and real action steps to take before the next group meeting.

Volunteer Opportunities

We believe that giving back to our community is important, and is core to our values as a club. Therefore, we are coordinating trips this Spring to volunteer at local organizations that provide opportunities to under-resourced aspiring entrepreneurs.
